Weleda Baby Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash

RRP: £6.95 for 200mls
Price per ml:  3.47p
Supplied and manufactured by www.weleda.co.uk
Tested October – December 2009

All products in the Weleda range contain natural raw materials mostly grown organically or biodynamically – this growing method takes into account the seasons and the rhythms of the planets.
Parent Testers loved the creamy consistency of this shampoo bodywash. It smells gorgeous, lathers well and produces bubbles that will not dry out or irritate even the most sensitive skin. One Tester commented on the excellent information Weleda provide on their website. This includes five sections for each product:  ‘about the product’, ’ingredients’, ‘how to use’, ‘press coverage and awards’ and ‘customer reviews’. This product got an overwhelming ‘thumbs up’ from Parent Testers and their children.

This is what some of the Testers said:

  • Because it doubles as a shampoo and bodywash it saves me having to buy two different products making it cost effective
  • My husband loved the smell and asked me to buy this one from now on. I have also tried it and I loved it as well!
  • I also love the fact that the ingredients are so nourishing for young sensitive skin and there are absolutely no artificial or harmful ingredients.

Jackson Reece Kinder By Nature Natural Baby Body Wash

RRP: £3.99 for 200mls
Price per ml:  2p
Supplied and manufactured by www.jacksonreece.com
Tested June - July 2017

Jackson Reece wipes are the brainchild of husband and wife team Colin and Janet Cordner. Their first son Jackson suffered from sensitive skin. Having failed to find a brand of wipes that was gentle enough for his delicate skin, in spite of extensive searching, Colin and Janet decided to develop their own. When their second son Reece was born, the choice of a name for their new brand became obvious. The rest, as they say is history...
Our Parent Testers are already big fans of the Jackson Reece range of baby wipes, which has achieved 5 TIPS Awards including Best of the best!
Jackson Reece's new range of unscented baby skincare products (which also includes Natural Baby Shampoo and Natural Baby Moisturiser) was highly anticipated and we are pleased to say the new products did not disappoint.
Jackson Reece Kinder by Nature Natural Unscented Body Wash has been specially designed for children with sensitive skin and eczema. There’s nothing more sensitive than smooth, delicate baby skin. That’s why Jackson Reece have created this unique Body Wash with soothing natural ingredients. Unlike other baby washes this product is free from anything harsh or unkind like alcohol or any kind of fragrance. That’s why they named it 'Kinder by Nature' - 99% of ingredients are derived from renewable vegetable extracts, with no nasty chemicals, alcohol or parabens. This product has a 100% fragrance and perfume free formula, is pH balanced, made in UK and not tested on animals.
Our Testers were unanimous in their praise for this cost-effective body wash that was easy to use, felt soft and silky to the touch and was ideal for little ones with sensitive skin. Although this baby wash is unscented Testers enjoyed its 'nice and natural' smell. However most important was the fact that children previously unable to use bath products were finally able to enjoy this safe and natural body wash without any irritation.

This is what some of the Testers said:

  • My daughter has eczema over her body and face and so i would never use any soap (and in fact many other products that claim to be for sensitive skin) but this was gentle and cleansed her skin effectively.
  • It exceeded my expectations as my daughter joined in playing in bath and loved it and her skin didn’t react either
  • nice to have a product to use that is found on normal supermarket shelves and not prescribed
  • It's worth the extra money as it is a more natural product that is better for my babies skin in the long run
  • I used it on my daughter aged 7 as well. She has sensitive skin and it was great on her skin. No irritation at all.
  • I really liked the product. My daughter has very sensitive skin and eczema. It didn't cause her any flare ups
  • We are delighted to give the Jackson Reece Kinder By Nature Natural Baby Body Wash our Best eco-friendly award in recognition of this excellent new product.

Shea Mooti Baby’s Pure Shea Butter Soap

RRP: £4.99 for 100mls

Price per ml:  4.9p
Supplied and manufactured by  www.sheamooti.co.uk
Tested February 2012

The name "Shea Mooti" came about because Violet used ethically-sourced Shea Butter from AfriKids’ Daughters, a multi-cooperative in northern Ghana, to create her initial range of products. ‘Mooti’ comes from ‘Muti’ meaning ‘tree’ in Shona – the language of Violet's native Zimbabwe.

As well as this soap, the Shea Mooti range includes the aptly named Mama’s Everything Body Balm (we tested this as a nappy balm, and you can read the reviews in the TIPS Awards section of this website), Mama’s Belly Rub (we tested this as a belly balm , and you can read the reviews  in the TIPS Awards section of this website) and Mama’s soothing Leg and Foot cream.

This is the first baby soap we have tested because we found it so hard to find one that complied with our strict criteria for ingredients. Testers were full of praise for this soap. They told us that although quite expensive it was cost-effective as it lasted well. Maybe a smaller bar would be good idea as it would be easier for little hands to use the soap.

Although especially designed for use with babies, this soap would be ideal for all the family, especially for anyone who has dry skin. Testers were impressed with the soap's rich creamy lather, the fact that it didn't dry the skin but left it feeling soft and moisturised.

In fact we were so impressed with this product we decided it is a Must have for your bathroom or baby bag!

This is what some of the Testers said:

It didn’t become soggy like other soaps

Seems to last a long time, not much needs to be used and it cleans well

It’s a very good soap and my child’s dry skin did benefit after using this

Essential Care Gentle wash & shampoo

RRP: £9.50 for 200mls
Price per ml:  4.75p
Supplied and manufactured by  www.essential-care.co.uk
Tested October – December 2009

Essential Care’s founder Margaret Weeds has been creating skincare products for 30 years. In the beginning, Margaret did this to treat her family’s eczema. Margaret is still responsible for Essential Care’s unique product formulations and she takes great care to use only the highest quality, organic, pure, and ethically-sourced raw ingredients. This attention to detail is reflected in the quality of the information Essential Care provide online and on pack.
Testers praised this product’s lovely long-lasting fragrance. With its innovative pump dispenser Essential Care Gentle Wash and Shampoo is especially easy to use. The pump also prevents wastage. The quality of the ingredients– no artificial additives and a formula certified by the Soil Association -  makes this product an obvious choice for people who are concerned about the environment or for anyone with sensitive skin.

This is what some of the Testers said:

It dispensed just the right amount and the smell was lovely

It is expensive but worth it as it is so lovely

Smells gorgeous and cleans well. This product has the ‘feel good’ factor!

Organic Children bath & shower wash - Berry Smoothie, Citrus Crush, Lavender Burst

RRP: £8.95 for 200mls
Price per ml:  4.5p
Supplied and manufactured by www.greenpeople.co.uk
Tested February 2015

With a dozen TIPS Awards already under their belt, the Organic Babies and Organic Children ranges are already a firm favourite with our Parent Testers. With excellent organic formulations and eco-friendly credentials, these products are ideal for any skin type and many are suitable for vegans. In fact, Organic Babies and Organic Children products are perfect for all babies, big and small!

We sent 30 Testers 1 sample bath & shower wash to review: we had 10 each of the Berry Smoothie, Citrus Crush and Lavender Burst. Testers used the productlittle ones aged six months old to 9 years.

Parent Testers were very impressed by the excellent information provided on pack and online. This includes a detailed list of ingredient with an explanation of what they are and what they do. Testers agreed the bath & shower washes were easy to dispense and lathered well - this is despite the products being free of sulphate. The fruity varieties smelt almost good enough to eat and little ones (and not so little ones!) really enjoyed bath time with these lovely products. Although more expensive than most similar products, many Testers said they would consider paying a little extra because they agreed this is such a good product. However most Testers said they would rather buy this bath & shower wash if it was on offer or if a larger bottle was available (making it more cost-effective).
Parent Testers whose children had extra sensitive skin remarked on the gentleness of this formulation. Ideal for all skin types and indeed all ages, these washes are undoubtedly some of the best organic washes available, so we are delighted to allocate them our TIPS Best Organic award.

This is what some of the Testers said:

The smell was my favourite feature. It is so nice and the scent lasts for a long time which is great, even my older children enjoyed using it.

I tried it myself and really liked it, as the salicylic acid in the product helped to clear up my adult acne, and didn't irritate my sensitive skin either.

My little boy and I loved the fragrance - it reminded me of orange jelly.

This product appeared to have a calming effect on my children's irritated skin

This is what some of the Testers said:

It saves money and bathroom shelf space by being a multiple use product

No complaints of stinging eyes and produces a good amount of toddler-pleasing bubbles

Does the job as well as high street’ brands only this is not full of synthetic nasties which I think is important when choosing  products for babies and young children

Earth Friendly Baby Lavender shampoo bodywash

RRP: £3.99 for 250mls
Price per ml: 1.59p

Testers overwhelmingly praised this product for its ‘divine’ fragrance and ease of use. Its flip top lid closes with one click – this helps to avoidany accidental spills. Earth Friendly Baby Lavender shampoo bodywash lathers exceptionally well, although it does not contain any harsh detergents. A little goes a long way so this product iss great value for money. This is why we have decided to award it Best budget.

This is what some of the Testers said:

We have to be careful what we use on our son who suffers from eczema but this was fine.

Fun  design and because it would be different from her baby brothers shampoo it was something just for her

My husband also tried it and he liked it, especially the smell

Award:  Best budget

Halos N Horns Zingy Orange hair & bodywash

RRP: £2.99 for 250mls
Price per ml:  1.19p
Supplied and manufactured by www.halosnhorns.co.uk
Tested October – December 2009

Halos N Horns were the first baby product manufacturers to recommend not using manufactured skincare products for the first month of life – this information was provided on their website and with their products. This groundbreaking approach highlights Halos N Horns dedication to promote safe skincare based on the latest expert advice. The website offers quality information about skincare for babies and children. Parent Testers agreed Halos N Horns Zingy Orange hair and body wash helped to make bath time fun. They were reassured that it is safe to use and efficient at cleaning dirty children. It also has the added attraction of a delicious fruity smell. Testers said this product provides excellent value for money, which makes it ideal for people on a budget.

This is what some of the Testers said:

It washed all the grime off without too much effort

It’s great, does the job well and smells gorgeous

Award:  Highly commended

Aromababy Pure Baby Wash

RRP: £8.50 for 150mls
Price per ml: 5.6p
Supplied and manufactured by www.aromababy.com
Tested October – December 2009

Aromababy pride themselves on providing products free from any ingredient that may irritate sensitive skin. They use 100% natural or organic raw materials in all their formulations. On their website, Aromababy advise to wash babies in plain water for the first month - this is refreshing and should be applauded.
This baby wash scored less because it is imported from Australia - this increases its price and carbon footprint for UK customers. Testers liked the flip top lid which closes with one click – this helps to avoid any accidental spills. Aromababy Pure Baby Wash is a high quality product which is supremely gentle for younger children or those with sensitive skin. Hopefully this lovely range of products will become easier to source as the list of UK stockists increases.

This is what some of the Testers said:

The product had a great feel and texture. The consistency was just right for a wash

I thought I wouldn’t like it but it was the best one I trialled

It was really easy to get a tiny amount out making it was ideal for me

Award:  Highly commended

Earth’s Best Lavender shampoo and bodywash
RRP: £5.49 for 250mls
Price per ml:  2.19p
Supplied by www.kinetic4health.co.uk
Tested October – December 2009

Kinetic Natural Products Distributors was founded in the early 1990s by brothers Alexander and Kim. Earth’s Best Organic by JASON range is one of the many natural brands available on their website.
Testers and children alike were particularly fascinated by the push button pop-up lid - this can be opened with one hand. This prevents accidental spills and makes this reasonably priced product even more cost-effective. The product scored less because it is imported from the USA – this increases its carbon footprint for UK customers.
Testers praised the wonderful lavender scent – they said it was ‘pleasant’ but not overpowering. The wash foamed easily providing lots of lovely bubbles. These proved  gentle but effective for all age groups including parents!

This is what some of the Testers said:

I tested this myself and it did the job well

It left my sons hair whispey and soft with a lovely mild scent

The unique flip-top lid, activated by the push button was very innovative

Award:  Highly commended
